BIOGRAPHY ~ CHRIS COOPER

Chris Cooper, co-founder of the Algoma School of Landscape Art, is an Ontario College of Art graduate who studied under Franklin Arbuckle in 1983. He moved to Spruce Lake in 1984 to live and pursue his interest in landscape painting. Chris now makes his living as an artist. He has shown at The Art Gallery of Algoma and the 100th Anniversary Exhibition of Algonquin Park. Chris has been artist in residence at the McMicheal Gallery in Kleinburg, Ontario. His work hangs in many corporate and private collections. Chris has also been interviewed by CBC northern Ontario Radio as well as CBC radio's Morningside by Peter Gzowski.

Though definitely carrying on the Group of Seven tradition of painting the Canadian Landscape, Chris works in his own distinct style. Developed over 13 years of living and painting in Algoma, he presents the district in a manner familiar to Canadians, and inviting to all who view it through his work.
